United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

I have the Explorer card and it still shows a mileage expiration date in my account. Should I be concerned?

Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I don't see the benefit of having UMPE card for international flights. Its my first time booking award travel to Asia. First checked bag is anyway free, not the 2nd bag.

If I get UA club card now and show it at the counter (not to purchase ticket), will 2nd bag be free then? Anyway to avoid the 2nd bag fee other than not carrying it? We are 2 adults. Roundtrip would cost us $400 for 2!!

Please advise!

Hey gang,

I have an explorer card personal, and may want to ramp up spend to hit 25K and get the PDQ dispensation. It looks like the biz version of this card is waaay better than the personal one, as u get 2x on a few good categories. Will having the explorer card get in the way of the biz explorer? Do I need to close the explorer and then try for the biz version?

Thanks!

Hello!

I have a personal MP explorer card and want to get a biz MPE as well. I heard I can do that, so my question is based on that fact. The status you gain, when you spend 25K, in regards to PQD and the bonus 10K - is that across cards (under one FFN) or ONLY per card??

AA seems to calculate status (after 40K spend) across all exec cards - is that the same with Chase/UR across a Biz and a personal explorer card(s)??

Thanks!

Is it still considered a hard pull on my credit if I just ask them to open up a new card using part of my current CL

Is there a difference between a hard pull for a business card and for a personal card?

Does the biz card have an extra 5k for adding an authorized user?
Also, is there a bonus for spending a requisit amount annually?

Sorry, stupid question but how do you create a second United FF#?

Do you just go to this link and fill it out? https://www.united.com/web/en-US/apps/account/enroll.aspx

Won't they just see that you already have a United FF#?

Put your name as Freddy instead of Freddie ;-)

For the address put a Willi address instead of a BP address.

Interesting that a UTA graduate needed a lesson in this.

Are you going to be combining them eventually?

You can just create it regularly
