United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

Ive been through: Been through 2 SP, 2 BA, 1 United, 1 freedom.

If I make a new FFN for United and/or BA, should I be nervous about chase shutting my account down? Or should I just leave it alone?

I tried to get matched for my first UA card and after two tries they told me that if I spend 2k in the first 3 months then and I contact her DIRECTLY then she will manually put another 20k points in my account.

Matched from what? Is there an offer?

Are you asking or telling? Because this is a successful match.

Does anyone have experience using Upgrade Award feature?
Friend wants to fly to Poland during summer where coach saver (60K RT) is available but business is not (300K RT). Would it make sense/be possible to buy coach ticket and use points/cash to upgrade? Or something like that?
Thanks

Not the best choice if threads to ask this. But this is where plan b comes into action. http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/38212

Can only do a plan b on UA metal, and UA doesn't fly to Poland.

If the cardholder is traveling with 4 passengers,  how many free bags will we get?  I am sure this was posted, so I apologize in advance

Total 2 free bags.

Primary Cardmembers and one companion traveling on the same reservation will receive their first standard checked bag free each time they fly on United- or United Express-operated flights when they purchase their tickets with their MileagePlus Explorer Card (a savings of up to $100 per round trip — calculated as $25 for the first standard checked bag each way, per person).

How long after instant approval until you can get the free bag benefit? - A friend of mine is travelling tomorrow and doesn't have the card yet.
I remember when a coke was a nickel, and you could buy VRs in OD.

It's very tough, but I've actually been successful in getting them to give the miles through (multiple) SM.
