United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

He was asking about less than 24 months.
And he asked if he can leave the FFN blank you said.

I knew someone still won't get me! I just didn't know it will be you...

I wish people could just be clear and simple I really think that's why people keep asking the same questions again and again.

I really wish people can read the wiki and search a bit before asking their questions.

I booked a ticket on United with my united explorer and as it turns out I'm flying on a partner airline ( Air Canada).  Does anyone know if I will be awarded the free checked bags? Thanks

thanks for info. That really is ridiculous. I booked it on united's website. You think they'll compensate me if I call customer service?

I don't even know that at the time of the booking I was suppose to be flying a partner airline. They may have just changed it now

No. What does UA website have to do with getting free bags on AC?

Ouch. Original resevation says operated by Air Canada. That really stinks. I guess I'll know for next time...

True, though you took his words out of context in such a way that people would have mistakin it that it answered his real question.
(I hope I didn't confuse to many people)

I've done it. My original MPE is one of my older cards, so kind of want it open for average age reasons.
I remember when a coke was a nickel, and you could buy VRs in OD.

To whom it may concern - I asked a few days ago if when buying a ticket for partner airline on United website I get the free bags on the partner's flight. I was told that I do not. I did, in fact, get a free bag ( I only tried to check in 1, maybe they would have given me 2 had I tried). I flew Air Canada. Maybe they changed the rules, or maybe I got lucky? It doesn't really make any sense because I double checked with a chase United rep before I flew and they told me I do not get free bags. Did anyone else ever have this experience?
