United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

Have a targeted 50K offer on an account that hasn't received the bouness in 24 months,  but it was merged with a different account that got it within 24 months, Will I get the bonus?
I would think yes since eligibility seems to often be based off of the particular UA #... that is my speculation though.

I stupidly applied for 30k offer online thinking that I would just request them to match for 50k offered in branch. Got a reply that its not available for me. So I went to the branch and they expedited for me. I just got a reply in the mail saying that the offer expired before I applied. So I called the banker that requested it for me and she confirmed that the offer is still available so she got me in touch with a supervisor who said that united and chase came to the "executive" decision not to allow it. Has anybody had this experience? Is there anything I should still try? Or should i just give up

is there any way to get free baggage if the primary card holder is not traveling?
I dont think so.
I think United is pretty strict when it comes to these things.
What if the traveler is an authorized user on the card?

What are the benefits to this? Expanded award inventory? Free bags?

you can upgrade it if you need it again, and probably helps it from expiring, but not positive about that

So, you are saying I can downgrade to the free card and then if I need the free bag, or expanded award availability, just upgrade again, even though I am over 5/24, no problems, will just have to pay the fee? TIA

If I generally don't do any spending on this card (I got it a year ago) and the AF was just charged, would it make sense to downgrade to a free card or keep it and pay the $95 because of the free checked bags and expanded flight search? just some thoughts

If you fly united then it is definitely worth it. However as was mentioned earlier in the thread you can always downgrade the card and then upgrade back when you need the benefits.

Also just bec you dont spend a lot on the card doesnt mean you wont get a retention offer. You dont lose anything by trying.

does downgrading and then upgrading hurt against the 5/24 rule?

will try the retention route.
