United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

My wifes account is targeted for 70k. 5/24 is hurting things!

where can I check if I'm targeted ?

What the average or normal recon offer for this card?

Any reason to downgrade to the free card? Or go for the recon?

I'm debating whether to have my wife cancel/downgrade her card whose AF is due. There have been posts here saying there's significantly better availability of award flights for cardholders, especially for close-in flights. I know that's been the case in the past, but I'm not so sure it still is. I compared the flight availability for JFK-TLV close in (Feb 19-Feb 28), and it's pretty much the same with or without the card. And of course UAL charges that nasty $75 close-in fee, so I'm less likely to use them for last minute flights. Any data points to show the increased availability?

Use expert mode to see availability differences. Cardholders get much better availability. And regarding the Close in fee, well, do a little searching and you won't have to pay that either.

OK, I figured out how to do that, and I'm still not seeing much difference. When I see XN9, I also see X9. One weird thing: apparently you have to look for paid flights to see the available classes in expert mode. There are flights that show up in award searches but not in paid searches. For example, 2/19, JFK-TLV LX17/LX254. Since I can't see it in a paid search, expert mode doesn't help.

You're never going to see better availability JFK-TLV. The card is useless for that.
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

I have seen last minute XN availability on TLV route where there was no X availability.

You probably meant EWR-TLV as expanded availability for cardholders is only on United metal.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Aha! I've booked UAL EWR-TLV at the Saver level a couple of times, quite possibly when X wasn't available. But I rarely do last minute bookings. I'll pick a few more random dates and see if it's worth it for me. I still don't understand why flights are showing up when looking for award flights but not for paid flights.

I was targeted for the 70k offer, I currently have the UMPE Biz, and have had the consumer card in the past, although not currently and it was more than two years ago. Can I just apply for the consumer card and get the bonus, or do I have to go through the whole new FF# rigamarole? TIA

Will you ever be targeted with a sign up bonus while having the card open?

So I received a 70k offer (no personal code) in the mail, but I'm way over 5/24. Does this kind of invitation get around the 5/24 rule or are there invites with codes that get around it? Willing to buy a code if anyone has one.

I currently have the consumer card.
I used the link in wiki and am eligible for 70k offer. Any idea if I can cancel and apply again? With new FFN
