United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

Can you transfer with a fee?
The fee is over 1 cent per point.  More worthwhile to buy on the grey market.

if I book an award ticket with this CC before booking the flight and then downgrade to the no AF version before actual flight will I loose my free luggage benefit?

Also a united phone rep told someone that this card does not confer the luggage benefit for paid basic economy fares;
that seems inaccurate?

Per Dan, thats wrong.

However if you or anyone on your reservation has a United Explorer or Club card or has elite status then you can all board early and each bring a free full size carry-on bag, even if you are on Basic Economy fares. You will also get a free checked bag, just as when traveling on a regular economy ticket. Elite members won’t get economy plus seats, upgrades, or elite qualifying miles.

IME it used to be if you paid the taxes on award flight with cc or used cc to pay paid fare then even if you were not flying the passengers would get the free luggage benefit is that still true with basic economy paid fares?

incorrect

IME when I booked award tickets for my parents using my cc the confirmation page showed that the first baggage was waived and they are not authorized users on my card

Maybe award tickets work differently.

Do UA cardholders get a free carry-on with a basic economy fare if the flight is booked through somewhere other than UA?

Hi! What's the fastest way for me to get my sign up offer. Of course once I've spent the required amount. I need the points asap.

Or is there Anyway to book a reservation without the required amount and wait until its posts to my account?

Unfortunately, Chase only post the miles after the statement closes. Maybe there's a way to work with customer service to change the statement close date earlier, but YMMV as usually the change only takes affect the next statement period.

as for 2nd question, not for United. Delta recently introduced this feature to "borrow" miles. Maybe United will follow suit in the future.

very confused on this. Official policy is...Card benefits like free first checked bag, priority boarding and 2 annual United Club passes apply only to the primary cardholder and a companion on the same reservation.

not sure how others here had experiences where non-card holder got the benefit.

Official, UA's policy about basic economy is that as long as a UA cardholder is on the reservation, everyone on the reservation will get a free carry on

Yes. but some are saying here that they weren't on the reservation, but simply bought the ticket with the card.
