United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

I know this doesn't answer your question but I tried matching from 50k-->50k + $50 and no dice. They said that in order to get an offer you need to sign up through the appropriate channel. Obviously worth it for you to try, but feel like you may get the same response.

Ok thanks. How did you get the 50k? In branch or getting targeted?
Can't seem to get targeted and branches are closed atm

Targeted. Signed up for a UMPE frequent flyer account and two days later received an email with the 50k offer.

My wife and I each have the United MileagePlus Explorer. The AF is coming due. I realize that this card is valuable because it gives you access to more rewards flights, so we ought to keep one. Is there any reason for both of us to keep it?

Only if you want to be able to book those XN awards out of either account.

Anyone know if the 10k annual bonus hours by spend date or statement close date?

(If I spend $25k now, but statement closes in January, will it be counted as 2015 or 2016?)

If someone else uses my card, do they get the free luggage?

I've yet to hear of something that goes by the statement closing date as opposed to the spend date.

1) The AF hit 3 months ago.  Still [worth it] to HUCA?

2) What benefits am I giving up [if I get] the downgraded version? Is it open to all or only if it appears in your 'offers' from marketing on the CSRs screen?

A friend of mine earned the bonus in June 2013, so it's definitely been over 24 months. His original card account is still open. Does he need to close that first card before applying, or is Chase like Citi where you can have multiples?

Can I still get a free bag on United if I charge the flight on a different card? Other cards give 3 times the points.
