United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

Why is it so difficult for me to get approved for the Explorer card?
I tried in September to no avail and now I'm trying for the 50k biz. They keep telling me I've opened too many cards in the past 2 yrs. How many HUCAs can one person do?? Any hope or is it time to - - - - give up :-[?

I already had United credit card in the past, and it only 3 month from the day i cancel the card.  Which is less than 24 month before i can get the bonus again, but after i read this thread especially the past 30 page.  I understand that you don't need to wait for 24 month to apply to get the bonus again, as long as you can create a new FFN to put on your application.  Then once you get the bonus you can ask them to merge it to the old account.  Can someone confirm on this before i apply for the card? i just double check to be sure i understand it correctly thanks!

Got a 50k offer in the mail ~1 month after signing up for a new MileagePlus account.  Just a heads-up.

Wondering if it will help my SM matching chances for the 30k offer I applied for last month.

IME it won't, but obviously worth a shot.

I need to hit spend first, then I'll SM.  I'm pretty confident, but I'll call if it doesn't work.

No need to hit threshold first.

Cool, thanks.  I'll take a pic and SM later.  I'll report back either way.

Does this card no longer make it that your miles don't expire? Just logged on and instead of seeing the usual message of no expiration as long as active card member, it said:

"As long as you earn or use MileagePlus award miles at least once every 18 months, your award miles will never expire. You can earn or redeem award miles for travel, hotel stays and car rentals, and for a variety of everyday products and services available from partners worldwide. The mileage expiration policy applies to all MileagePlus accounts."

I feel like that last line is new.

ETA: On a positive note, award searching seems to have improved. Only the dates that actually have coach and business saver are green.

Still showing the old message by me.
