United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

What can one do to pay even $1 on a flight?

Redeem a flight booked through Chase UR portal with less than 100% of the points needed.  Chose to use fewer points and pay the remainder with the united credit card.

FYI - Just saw a 70k offer in the mail.
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

What can one do to pay even $1 on a flight?

I just tried this and I booked an United Flight on Chase Ultimate Rewards and charged $5.00 to my Mileage Plus Explorer Card and it didn't work! The payment shows up at United with a different card (a Mastercard!) and is showing that I have to pay baggage fee.

Anyone have any idea? Any way to resolve this?

Why would it show up as a master card? Call chase and ask them what's happening here?

I'm calling everyone and everyone is passing the buck to someone else. Seems that Chase Ultimate Rewards uses some "corporate card" to book the flight and doesn't pass through your card number. Has anyone ever had luck doing this?

Sorry you're right, I paid a portion of the ticket with my united card to get the free luggage.

He seems to have gotten it to work?

In desperation after trying every other avenue, I called Sapphire Reserve CS, and they gave me 5000 bonus points (equivalent to $25 per bag). How do you like that!

Of course it is. The calculation was the CS rep not mine. (To me its worth more than that.)

I just noticed this when searching for award flights:
Quote
Exclusively available to you as a Chase Cardmember
Does that mean its expanded availability? I didn't know that still applied even if you downgraded to the no AF card.

Any ideas? If not, is it worth keeping? Rep told me that as long as I have the card, my UA miles won't expire - even with no activity. Is that true?

Never bumped into that post until now, Definitely very interesting, lots of details and info there, needs a week of reading to actually be able to put together all the info together with all the coding.
Very well put together dan. Nice piece of artwork.
