United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

Not sure if this was posted upthread.
I got a letter in the mail informing of the following changes to the benefits of the UMPC.

New:
2 miles per dollar on hotels and restaurant purchases
25% back as statement credit for in flight purchases
Global entry/TSE pre fee reimbursement once every 4 years

Going away:
10k mp miles bonus for 25k annual spend (as of 5/31/18, so it's being prorated,  if you spend at least 10k by 5/31, you'll get 4k bonus)
Price protection  and return protection will no longer be available as a benefit.
(Trip insurance changing)

Win some, lose some :)

I just completed the 3k bonus spend before the statement closed.  I didn't get the bonus miles on the statement and now, a few days later still no bonus award.  I had about $1,200 worth of spend in MCGCs.
Should I be worried?  Anyone else have a problem making spend with GCs?

My experience has been that if one meets minimum spend within a week of statement closing, then bonus points are posted when next statement closes.

It's not a problem as long as it's not called a cash advance or some other form of payment versus a regular charge.

Succinct and to the point.  Better even with the typo.  ;)

Try to book a ticket, on the final page you should see 40k + $100 statement credit + annual fee waived the first year.

If I book a basic economy flight with United I understand that I have to pay for it with my Explorer card to get the benefits. But does this need to be done on United.com or can I use a third party travel agency?

I think it'd work if your card is actually used to pay for the ticket. With Chase UR portal, they actually use some Amex (go figure) card to pay for the ticket.

Thanks. Just noticed that dan wrote “However if you or anyone on your reservation has a United Explorer or Club card...” so it sounds like just using your mileage number with a card attached should be good enough.

that's doesn't work with UA. It does with others
For UA you have to pay at least part of the ticket with the CC in order to get the free bags.
Although sometimes an agent will waive the fee at the airport if you show the card
And assuming you're talking about an OTA like Priceline, it should not be a prob as long as you use your United card.

Ah interesting. Actually I was hoping to book with my CNB card to get the $100 visa discount. But that would require me using my CNB card to do the actual booking.

Not sure if it means anything, but I've booked hotels with priceline, and the last 4 digits of the card on my reservation were not those of any of my cards.

interesting, whenever i booked a united ticket through PL the charge came up on my cc from united. i guess in this case it would be YMMV. IMO you should be ok by pulling up the charge from your cc to the agent.

It's possible hotels are completely different.
