United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

any way to get for a referral link the 65k offer?
on chase referral it says they will earn 40k after 2k spend
U can apply through the 40k referral offer and then sm to request a match to the higher bonus.

I have the consumer Explorer card, now due for its annual fee. i want to downgrade to a no-fee card.
looks like the current option is the TravelBank card (https://www.theexplorercard.com/travelbank)
  • Does it have any of the benefits like the explorer card? viewing mileage availability? mileage expiration?
  • considering it doesn't earn miles, is there any benefit at all of keeping this in the portfolio over say another freedom?
  • Is it easier to 'upgrade' this back to Explorer vs. from another item?

I think you can downgrade to the mileage plus award card
It earns united miles per purchase but none of the explorer benefits
I also think at 1 point I downgraded from the explorer to the award card and then at some point upgraded back to the explorer, I don't know if chase still let's you do that

I've downgraded to that in the past. is that card still in existence? not replaced by the TravelBank? what is it called, how would I identify it to a CSR?

Maybe the travel bank did replace the awards, I dont know,
Why dont u call chase tell them u dont want to pay the af,  maybe they will give miles or cash and if they dont, ask them if u can downgrade,

can anyone confirm based on experience that all get a carry on? no indication in 3 ticket reservation that the basic economy tix still allow a carry on for all three, and website refers only to the primary cardholder.
"1 The passenger must be the primary cardmember of an eligible United MileagePlus Card from Chase at time of check-in, and ticket(s) must have been purchased using their card in order to qualify." https://www.united.com/CMS/en-US/travel/Pages/BaggageCarry-On.aspx

Any confirmation on this?

Dan's language here is also not 100% clear. https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/ends-today-limited-time-offer-favorite-airline-mileage-card-take-advantage-uniteds-generous-awards/

If I am understanding correctly, if I book 8 people on the same reservation on a UA basic economy using my UA explorer card, we will be entitled to 8 full size carry on bags + 8 personal items + 2 free checked bags. Is this correct?

From Twitter:

Hi
I have a United Explorer card from Chase bank.
If I book a party of 8 passengers on a domestic flight on a basic economy fare, will all passengers on the same reservation as me be entitled to a free full size carry on?
Additionally, will me and 1 other passenger be entitled to a free checked bag?

 United Airlines
Hi there. Thanks for reaching out to us. Yes, you and your companions on the same reservation are all eligible to bring a full size carry-on, as long as the bag doesn't exceed 45 linear inches even with Basic Economy fares. The first checked bag for you and one companion traveling on the same reservation is free of charge. Please know that you need to purchase your tickets using your United Explorer card. Let us know if you have further inquiries.

Applied and was approved for me and my wife for the United business 75k offer back in March. Already spent the 5k on each card more than 2 weeks ago but the points didn't post yet and my United member status hasn't changed either nor do I have access to broader award availability. How long does it typically take for the bonus miles to post and for the member status to change?

You don't earn status with the card.
The miles should typically post with the first statement closing after you complete the MSR. You should have expanded availability at this time, did you search a flight that's available in XN only and not X, to see if its showing?
