United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

Just opened the card. I have a couple of questions:

1. Any recent reports of being able to get free checked bags even if ticket was not booked on card? I saw a FT thread from 2012 that said you can get fees waived at airport, but I imagine that might be outdated.

2. Best offer I could find was 40k for spending 2k in 3 months, plus 10k for spending 5k in 6 months. Any ideas if there are better offers?

Just got the card a few weeks ago, after I had already purchased a ticket. I told the agent at the airport that I had booked the flight before I got the card. He waived the luggage fee for me and 1 travel companion on the same reservation.
However the agent can decide either way.

Any ideas on comparing an offer of 25k plus $250 (that pops us when I'm booking a ticket) vs an offer on the united app of 40k plus 10k after spending $5,000? I don't normally travel international, and mostly use united for basic economy fares that go for around $100.

Where 40+10k offer? I have only seen $250 + 25k or 40k.

Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I know this is a repeat, but I need to confirm:

I have an Explorer card.
If I book basic economy (domestic), I still get to bring a bag?
Do  I also get a carry on bag?

If you have the card you automatically get priority boarding and a carry on.

AFAIK you should get a check bag if you PURCHASE the ticket with your CC, but I do not speak from experience.

"What is my checked baggage allowance when I buy a Basic Economy ticket?

On trans-Atlantic flights, you will be charged a fee of $60 for your first standard checked bag. MileagePlus Premier members, Star Alliance Gold members and qualifying MileagePlus cardmembers who purchase their tickets with their card will receive standard checked bag benefits when checking in with United for flights operated by United or United Express. Restrictions may apply. For details, visit our Baggage Information page."
I'm not who you think I am.

Yes x2, as long as you use the card like mentioned above for part of the purchase.

I just got my annual 2 club passes, and I plan on canceling the card when the AF posts. Do the passes get canceled when I cancel the card or are they good till the exp. date?

Pretty sure they remove the passes from your account when you cancel the card.

After hitting submit for the united explorer card, the following message showed up on the screen:

"We have just a few more questions, *****.
We've received your United Explorer Card application. Please help us process it faster by answering these questions.

You provided $******  as your gross annual income. Would you like us to consider additional sources of income to fulfill your monthly payments?

Examples may include income from investments, rental properties, Social Security benefits, pensions, retirement accounts and salaries. Alimony, child support, or separate maintenance need not be included if you do not wish to rely on it.

Yes...I'd like to provide additional sources of income

No...I don't want to provide additional sources of income

I choose not to answer...the question about additional sources of income

Your taxable income is income that you or your tax advisor has determined to be subject to taxes. This includes full-time, part-time, internships or seasonal jobs, self-employment, interest or dividends, investments, retirement, social security benefits and public assistance. You can also include money that someone else deposits regularly into your account (individual or joint). If you're 21 or older and regularly use income from others to pay your bills, you can include that too. Alimony, child support, or separate maintenance income need not be revealed if you do not wish to have it considered as a basis for repaying this obligation.

Additional Taxable Income Amount You provided $****** as your gross annual income. Would you like us to consider additional sources of income to fulfill your monthly payments?
$
.00
Your non-taxable income is income that you or your tax advisor has determined to be not subject to taxes. Examples of income that are typically not subject to income tax may include money you receive from disability, worker's compensation, child support, housing allowance, social security and public assistance.

Additional Non Taxable Income AmountYou provided $****** as your gross annual income. Would you like us to consider additional sources of income to fulfill your monthly payments?
$
.00"

Is this a common occurrence? never had this before.
