United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

Can you provide some advice if you can... I have the CO Onepass MC that was converted to United because of the merger. Card that I have is still the CO card. Do you think I can apply for the United Visa (Dan said his link is expiring tomorrow) and tell recon that I only have the CO (play dumb) and never had the United so no reason I shouldn't get it? Or is it better to just say I need the Visa because of dollar stores?
{I know it's a bit off topic but I also have a SP Visa being charged annual fee next month, I want to 2bm (maybe 3bm but I'm not confident...) with the United card... when signing for the MC is it a guarantee they will make me close my SP Visa? What about pending points for both the CO (United) and SP Visa that I might need to close? Would you wait on the SP Visa annual fee to post and try to get retention bonus and not include it in the 2bm as it's only going to get the annual fee charged next month?}

I know I asked a ton of questions, and for that I apologize... I am trying to do the best research I can, but time is of the essence as I really would like to get in on the United Card before this great offer goes....

Thanks a million! :D

I am aware of this... I don't mind closing/moving my two accounts into these new ones... don't want to pay the annual fee anyhow...

Then I'm not sure what the questions is...
Maybe this will clarify it...

1)  Do you think I can apply for the United Visa (Dan said his link is expiring tomorrow) and tell recon that I only have the CO (play dumb) and never had the United so no reason I shouldn't get it? Or is it better to just say I need the Visa because of dollar stores?
<Meaning would this be a valid excuse to open up a card I supposedly have already... I know Dan said he has two but from what I have researched it isn't very common>

2)  What about pending points for both the CO (United) and SP Visa that I might need to close?
<Meaning if I were to close them out before the month ends what would happen to the points? Would the United miles post? Would I need to manually transfer out my SP UR points to another UR points card (my Ink bold for example) or would they remain in an UR account under that SP despite it being closed... A/A is linked to UR transfers and although the consensus seems to be that transferring to your own linked account is no problem whatsoever, I would like to avoid doing this if possible; notch it up to my A/A paranoia>

3) Would you wait on the SP Visa annual fee to post and try to get retention bonus and not include it in the 2bm as it's only going to get the annual fee charged next month?
<Or would you think it's not worth taking the chance on the retention bonus and just apply for the SP MC? Or maybe apply for SP MC and see if I can somehow delay recon long enough to get retention bonus on SP Visa and only then close it to approve the SP MC...>

just received this now!

Dear ROTBERG,

Thank you for contacting Chase regarding your United
MileagePlus Explorer credit card account.

We have reviewed the application that you completed and
the enrollment offer attached to that application states

purchase and the first year annual fee waiver. In
addition, you can earn an additional 10,000 bonus miles if
you spend $25,000 in purchases in any calendar year. This
together equals the 40,000 miles offer.

The enrollment offer you are requesting states you will
receive 50,000 enrollment miles after your first purchase,
5,000 bonus miles for adding an authorized user within 62
days of opening, and a $50.00 statement credit. In
addition, you received the first year annual fee waiver
and can earn an additional 10,000 bonus miles if you spend
$25,000 in purchases each calendar year (January through
December). This together equals the 65,000 miles

for the $50 statement credit do i need to have a statement balance above $50, or is less fine?
Less is fine.

Someone may have asked this...

I made a charge for less than $50, got the statement credit but didnt get the bonus miles...is it possible that i have to spend at least $51 in order for the bonus miles to post?

You do not need to spend more than $1. Did the statement close yet?

It can sometimes take until the second statement closes for it to post.

So what did I do wrong that I got this?

Dear ChaimMayer,
Thank you for contacting Chase about your United
MileagePlus® credit card account.

With the continual changes and promotional offers for many
credit card products we at Chase will always consider
allowing the newest promotion to be applied to any
qualified accounts that were opened within the previous 90
days of the offer. In reviewing the open date on the
account, I regret to advise that the account is not
qualified to participate in the new enrollment promotion
and therefore we are unable to honor your request for
55,000 bonus miles and $50.00 statement credit.

Although we appreciate your loyalty, we ask that you trust
that this decision is the same for all members whose
accounts do not fall within this designated time frame. We
feel that adhering to the same policy for all members
outside of this designated time frame is the best way to
remain consistent.

If you have any further questions, please reply using the
Secure Message Center.

Thank you,

I applied on July first the day before the deadline but I didn't get instant approval so I called recon and pushed it through on the third - maybe the fourth - not positive.

The sm clearly states the reason for denial is the "account open date". They must be making a mistake.  I think you should reply that your account was opened within 90 days.

I had recon push it through a couple days later as well. Try sending a new SM.
