United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

I'd rather have 55k miles after 1k spend than no miles at all

I applied for united explorer and a sapphire (2bm) last week and was approved instantly for the sapphire. Got the sapphire today as well as a letter from chase fraud department asking me if I has applied for the explorer and gave me a number to call. I called and the rep approved my card without making mention of the fact that I already own a united visa signature :) And I thought it would be an uphill battle to get approved.
also got approved today for my second united after 2 sapphires and 1 united :)

on this note, and I'm sure it's been discussed, if I can make the  $25,000/year spend is it more valuable on this card (35K) than sapphire (~27K)?

Yes, but remember that if any of that $25K spend is on travel or dining, if you spend more than $25K, or if you can't make it to $25K by the end of the calendar year than the numbers will be very different.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I'm talking specifically using AP type spends
calendar year though is the real bummer

Has anyone tried calling Chase instead of SMing them, to get the match to the 65k?

And the spend ($1 and/or $50) need not be an actual swipe or anything, online (AP) would work too?

Thanks!

Just showing your card at check in has always worked for me. Even if the ticket was not booked with the card.

Is this card churnable? I currently have the card if I cancel now how long should I wait to apply again to get the sign up?
(also in general what is the rule with churning cards how long is the recommended time to wait before applying again?)

As many as you fly United.

Yes just get a new FF# to put in. Churning depends on the person wait 1, 3 or 6 months. Depends on the card how risky you want to be etc. I'd personally wait 3 months before churning this card. Depends how many other cards I have opened...

There is no simple answer. You can either just try and see what works or read hundreds of pages on the forums to see what others have done. But to get a definitive answer just isn't possible.
