United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

United MileagePlus Explorer Card (MC) was my (wifes) first credit card .
the year is almost and i saw they charged me the 95$ annual fee .
i called chase and they told me they could downgrade it to a united reward cc that gives you 1 mile per 2$ spending  ???
was wondering if someone heard about this card before?

Certainly wouldn't spend on it, but sounds like a good way to hold your line of credit to leverage for later apps...

I'm failing to understand the message you are trying to bring out by putting that it was your wife's card in bold. Simply look at what I wrote and substitute "her" for "your" so it will read "Certainly wouldn't spend on it, but sounds like a good way to hold her line of credit to leverage for later apps..."

I'm getting the feeling I was lost in translation here  :D

I don't believe it's closing the card, your simply converting it to another. The line remains open and has the same opening date.

Was recently approved for 3 chase cards, 1 sapphire 2 united club (personal & business) I then applied for united explorer and was declined, status line said 7-10 days for notice, called recon and they approved the credit but said it went to the verification department, called back status line and it switched from 7-10 days to 2 weeks, perhaps that's the difference between them, 7-10 = decline and 2 weeks = verification dept check.

Should I call back recon line or just wait for verification dept?

I'm pretty sure there's a difference between a) converting a card into another and b) horse-trading one card for another (which is what I think you suggested).

I think in the former, you'd have the same opening date, but not in the latter.

Can someone confirm that using Chase Recon to horse-trade does not keep the same open date?

I never did this with Chase but when I did this with Citi, the line remained exactly the same with the same opening date etc. The only difference was which card I was carrying. They don't do any hard pull or anything of that matter, they simply issue a new card to the same line. It seemed to me from his lashon that this is what he was offered... I could very well be wrong though.

Ah, yes, so we're in agreement (at least with respect to converting/downgrading). Thanks for the clarification.
