United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

No it shows with the 30k.

I would rather go with the 55k without the $50 statement then 30k with $50

That will show with the 55k?

You can SM and ask for the $50, you'll get it (at least IME).

Just did it today, I applied at the bank for 1 card and did another 2 later= 1 PULL
So after this, when I call the Application Status line it only says about the 2 cards I did later. Called chase and it comes out that the banker got all my info correct but was off by 1 digit on my SSN. I got approved for that card but just wondering how they do that if the SSN is wrong?

So I should apply for the 55k and Sm for the $50 or apply with the 30K and $50 and SM for the 55k?

It seems from this thread you have a better chance applying for the 55k and sm about the 50

Yes, I bought something on on the shopping site, got 40 miles and the 65K worked.
Not true. If you start booking a flight on United it will pop up.

Glad to hear you figured out a workaround. What card did you use to pay Via United Mall ?

I'm not here for arguments nor do I question your vocabulary skills
but I really think you guys are mistaking on this one.
the way Merriam explains it, shut down refers to closure i.e. "the water main/sub station has been shut down  due to the storm" etc.
while shot down is either
1) to cause to fall by shooting, to kill someone...
2) to put an end to
3) to discredit SHOOT DOWN A THEORY
you can say that "my fund-raising ideas were shut down" which would mean the idea was killed/destroyed but how about the person saying "I was shot down because of my fund-raising ideas ???" doesn't make any sense unless he literally mean he was killed because of it.
hence, telling a person you'll be shot down for doing that, would probably mean him being killed etc. since you're referring to him not to his idea
it would have been more correct when you would say "your matching request will be shot down" but if your saying "people have been shot down for matching" is incorrect unless you mean Chase uses ammunition to treat they're customers.
that said if you use shot down for Chase AA it wouldn't sound as bad. since its very similar and maybe even the same shoresh as shut down.
but using it on a person being shot down is incorrect vocab, IMHO

if you still think I'm wrong then bring an example of "shot down" referring to a person but doesn't mean killed or shooting down a theory.

In my youth I have been shot down by many a sexy lady in a discotheque . Never any weapons or munitions involved . It's a colloquialism for us NYC born types . Throw Miriam under the Bus.

English is a living language !

Forgot to mention that this made it much easier for recon. to approve the other two cuz they didn't see that app.

How fast after the online apps did you recon ? Bank app was approved immediately at the Branch IIRC.
Trying to get a sense of what they thought the Bank APproved card was . Either did not notice
It at all, or just assumed it was a pre existing card by recon ?

called recon right away they couldn't even find it until they transferred me to a different department.
