United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

How does it work with merging two UA accounts, I have bonus points from a 2bm in separate accounts but do not want to risk them taking it away on the merger. Is there any risk?

Also in general do they check on miles from the same promo etc being put into 2 accounts?

Question. Both me and hubby have the UA mileage plus card. It is coming up for the annual fee. Best advice?  If we cancel the card do we lose the mileage?  I can see paying the fee for one card as I like the free bags. Should we cancel and reapply at a later time. Or ask yo be downgraded to non fee card?  Can you transfer mileage from one Ffb to another in same family?

You will not lose the miles when cancelling your card. Why not apply for a different Chase card? or transfer the credit line, close em down and reapply (with a new FFN) ? More points. No fee.

Dear Red,

We?re writing in response to your recent question about
your United MileagePlus® credit card account.

We reviewed your account and see you recently opened a new
United MileagePlus credit card account, which offers bonus
miles after your first purchase using the new card.
Unfortunately, you will not be able to receive the bonus
miles since you received a similar offer in the past. Here
is additional information to help explain the enrollment
bonus:

?The terms and conditions associated with the credit card
indicate that the one-time offer is only for first-time
United MileagePlus cardmembers with a new account.
?Since you received 50,000 in **** 2012 on your
previous account ending in ****, you are not considered a
first time cardmember.
?Based on this information, this new account is not able
to receive the enrollment bonus miles.

Thank you for being our customer. We appreciate your
business.

If you have any further questions, please reply using the
Secure Message Center.

Thank you,
:'( And yes I did create a new FF# that was not combined with an old one.

If you used a new FFN you'll still get the points automatically.  Same thing happened to jewda IIRC.

Yea, I'm hoping I still get the base points but it seems it's a no go for the extra 25k + $50.

I'd write a new SM after getting the signup points.

Oh I definitely will, but I'm not that optimistic about getting it. Nu nu, you win some you lose some (there's always next time).

Sort of a -1

I did not get the points automatically. I also got a letter in the mail in addition to the response to the SM. However in my case I didn't put down a sterile FFN. I realized right away and created one and had the account updated, it was crazy United merged my account and no matter how many new FFN's I created they kept getting merged when I had Chase add it to my account. In the end I got a sympathetic CSR to manually award me 55K, but alas she refused to issue a $50 credit.

I made a large purchase on my Chase MC and got it refunded to my Chase visa cc. When the credit posts on the visa I will then want to pay the amount owed on the MC.

What is the best way to do this without losing the points (I had a promo on the MC)? Will getting them to shift the credit from one card to the other cause me any issues? Or is it better to request a check which at this time I do not wish to deposit?

On another note can you even credit a return from a merchant from one account to another account from Chase? In this case a return for something not even bought on this cc  8)

If you have the option, credit to a debit card.

Technically you are right. However once i or Red got a SM stating that we won't  be getting points due to previously getting the bonus we are in the same boat IMO. Which is why I sort of -1'd, they can obviously override the automatic crediting of points.
