United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

@Cbs:
Sometimes it takes very very long.
But I used it to my advantage...
I called them up complaining that I have a UA booking for next week, so I need the passes ASAP, so maybe they can UPS it, they asked me for the flight date, and I got them a few days latter.
A few weeks latter, I got another two in the mail...
Did it twice, might need to ask a supervisor though.
Double dip...
Love me or hate me. I still love you.

I have put request for merging my united mileage plus accounts after deposit of my 55k promotional miles. Ir has not happened after 7 days.

I had done this 3 times after churning 3 times in last 6-8 months. Past 2 times were no issues. It had got merged right after few days. It just is not happening this time.

Do you think, it may have anything to do with churns. Looking at my main account and seeingbthere is 55k miles getting deposited here every few months.

Any experiences around recent merging and anything on my case?

You doing it by phone or online (united.com/merge)? Does all your info match? If there are any discrepancies with your personal info between the two accounts, they won't merge. I posit that's the problem.

If they would have "discovered" your churning (highly unlikely, and even less likely that they would take action...), why would they impede your ability to merge accounts as apposed to just blocking you altogether?

This was always officially the rule.

i flew in january, booked my tickets with freedom (in december for 5x points) and still got the free bag.  dunno if they've changed it to check where you purchased now, but at least through dec/jan you could get the free bag even if you didn't pay with the explorer card...same goes for priority boarding.

as for whether they changed it now, there's an easy way to check - buy a ticket with a different card, then check what it says your baggage fee will be.  for me, when i booked with freedom, it had $25 crossed out with $0 next to it...if that has changed and you're getting charged for the bag, just cancel the ticket (united 24 hour cancellation waiver) and then re-book with the united card.

i'm planning a trip for april, i'll give this a shot then unless someone else beats me to it.

edit: i should note, i also got the e-mail mentioned above...

Did anyone have success changing the information of a Chase targeted offer? How many times can you do it?
Yes
I will try it again sometime this weekend
Just did it again it allowed me to fill the app but I wasn't instant approved so we will see if the promo works.
I think that as long as it allows you to fill the app then you will receive the offer.
The second app was approved over the weekend w/o a phone call!  ;D ;D
Now I guess we'll see if I get the 55K!
I'm assuming I will but don't forget what my annoying English teacher said:

I applied this card yesterday. My application status is pending for review. Today, I call Chase reconsideration. They told me to wait for processing and decision in receiving mail in a few days. Does that mean that my application was denied? Do I need to call again today to check my status? or what should I do? :(

I did it online. My name and address are exactly the same.

Same problem as you John, requested accounts to be combined almost a month ago and they never were.  Also sent in a message requesting they combine them manually a week ago, but I haven't heard back.  Name/address's are identical.  Let me know if you make any headway with it.

I wouldn't recommend applying for a second right after closing the first one.
