United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

my yearly fee is due on the explorer card. on my last card, i just closed down my account and shifted the credit line over. this time, i sm'd chase about the fee and they offered to downgrade me to the no annual fee united mileage plus awards card. i i find very little mention of this card anywhere, and it seems that you cannot just apply for it. i have some questions regarding the benefits on it. anyone have some knowledge of this card?

the business card is a different product ,therefore, it does not have any bearing on your regular explorer card.

Last time I ASKED for them to downgrade me and they told me there was no such card. I love Chase.

I think it earns 1 point for every $2 spent.

that is correct. my question is, if i downgrade the card. would having this product "disqualify" me from getting the explorer bonus again? i know many people have gotten the bonus more than once, but im assuming that was with no active consumer united cards open.

no, you are officially able to apply for each product with the same FF# at least once.

Why?
I tried it recently for me and another applicant, had a very bad experience.
They didn't accept any explanation why I closed an applied again.
The denial letter even had the last 4 digits of the closed card as the reference number...
Love me or hate me. I still love you.

Do you mean to click on the Explorer and One pass plus showing a Mileage Plus explorer that is not a  Visa Signature . That link  refers to  Continental and if I click on it , it brings me to MPE Visa Signature 30k Card app.

Same problem as you John, requested accounts to be combined almost a month ago and they never were.  Also sent in a message requesting they combine them manually a week ago, but I haven't heard back.  Name/address's are identical.  Let me know if you make any headway with it.
I combined 2 accounts a while back via a message. It took 2 months for United to get back to me.

During recon wouldn't the rep ask you why you closed your card yesterday?

No you could still get the bonus.
I actually have 2 open cards right now 1 milageplus + milageplus explorer!
And I got the second bonus as well!

You just sent in separate applications and got both cards + sign up bonus?  Does the same concept work across other cards? E.g. Citi Platinum Select VISA and Citi Gold AA visa?
