United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

Even if it's not the cardholders first time?

Use a new FFN. Shouldn't be a problem. As always YMMV.

Use Dan's link and get matched after the points post.

Or even before they post if it's your first time.

I did it with a non functioning UA Club card about a month ago. Worked like a charm... ;)

Anyone with experience getting baggage fees waived with a regular United Mileage Plus card (i.e., NOT the Club Card)?

Hiya folks,
Just closed my United card after transferring the the credit line. Funny thing is that the rep said she could only transfer the line -500$ I said fine.

Now when I reapply do I need a new ffn number or do I just leave it blank on the application? Will United then merge the 2 accounts?
Thanks
S

You will have to put in a request to merge the accounts. I would recommend doing that after your signup bonus has posted.

That's why you should leverage, not close.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Do you think closing it with a 500 credit line was a big mistake?

I just got a new FFN do you think UA will merge the accounts down the road?

Thanks for all the help

It wasn't a BIG mistake. I wouldn't worry about it. You still have most of your credit to play with - $500. What's done is done.

And again, no UA won't merge the accounts unless you tell them to.

regarding downgrading from UMPE to mileageplus regular, when I called they told me I wasn't elligible to do that b/c I didn't have the card for a year, and they can't change the terms w/in the first yr of the card.

should I just HUCA or is that rly the policy? What have been your experiences

Transfer the credit line over to other card, and ime u don't have to wait at all to apply again.

the prob is dan, if you have to many cards open with chase they wont even accept ur app. meaning if i have 6 cards and do a 3bm the last card app might not go thru till u call recon and shut down one and open another and so on, and only then will chase see ur third app and ull get another pull. its really hit or miss on these situations.
yes i shut my explorer card down (transferred 7k to my already 25k club) for this reason but downgraded my SP WMC for your reason! :-)
