Can you change a United into a Freedom or Sapphire. I'm trying thru sm and they're saying they cab't do it in the 1st year.

chase e-mailed me saying that, once i spend the first 1k, i should sm them again and they'll give me the extra 20k (on top of the 30k) and they issued a $50 statement credit

Did anyone ever have this. My friend opened a new united card with a new ff# and asked to get matched and this what was received.

United MileagePlus credit card account, which offers 30,
000 bonus miles after you spend $1,000 in the first 3
months your account is open. Unfortunately, you will not
be able to receive the bonus miles since you received a
similar offer in the past. Here is additional information
to help explain the enrollment bonus:

? The terms and conditions associated with the credit card
indicate that the one-time offer is only for first-time
United MileagePlus cardmembers with a new account.
? Since you received 25,000 bonus miles in March 2012 on

Because they already had the offer in the past they should have waited until they spent the 1K and got the 30,000 points. People on the forums have had the same experience, spent the 1K anyways, got the 30K and then asked to get matched again and were successful.

He should have closed the first one before applying. I doubt he'll still get it now that they changed the FF# to the first one, IMHO.

Thanks for all the helpful info, I did close my first MPE card after shifting the credit line. Now that I have received the sign on bonuses and the additional bonus through the SM whats the best way to combine the FF numbers. Should I call United first to have them merge the new ff# to the old ff# and then Chase to associate the new card with the old ff#? or leave the new FF# connected to the card and merge the old FF# to the new one?

Just thinking that keeping the new FF# is easier but then again keeping the old number may make me appear more loyal since I have had it so long

My issue is the line "here is how u earn 45000" i never asked about that why did i get that drasha?
Will i need to contact them again when i spend 1k (which i did b4 i sm'd tthem on chase gc) of will it post auto?

I just got approved for the card. What is the offer that I can SM for? I got the 30k mile offer. The one everyone wants is 50k +$50 statement credit?
