United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

If I'm travelling to Israel and already get one bag free, does this card get me a second bag free?

do they distinguish between the personal and business card ? I had the personal and cancelled 5 months ago. I now am going to apply bur a business card. Do the rules on the Wiki (about creating a new FF# and all) apply ? is so after this Biz card can i cancel and apply for the personal again in a few months ?
Pleas hold. Your call will be answered in the order it was received.

I would probably close it right away, and hope for the best. How long ago did you apply? I believe it was a instant approval?

Don't send them any SM until you see if you got the bonus.

Do you have that many cards that you make such mistake  :P

For the 1st one I think June. It was instant. No I do not have so many cards that I'm active with that I should lose count. Truth is that was the only Visa card I was active with and it was on my list of things to do, to close it... :(

I received UA card September 15, 2013. Did the spend and got the 55K miles in October.

Would it be OK to close the card now OR is it better to keep the card open for atleast 6 months (so until Mid-March 2014)

I generally keep cards open for minimum 6 months, but would appreciate if say, 4 months would be good enough OR am I risking that Chase would claw back the 55K miles?

Once closed, is it sufficient to wait 1 month before trying the churn? Or best to wait somewhat longer?

Appreciate your help - thanks.

Why would chase claw back the miles?

A couple of years ago there were some reports that Chase was being aggressive with frequent churners - I do recall there was language in the T+C. If you google Chase claw back miles you will see some reports - but nothing I can see in 2013.

It is my usual practice to keep cards for 1 year - but I am trying to see if I can do the United churn a bit faster.
