United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

That sounds like a very good idea, thank you for that.  I also sent an SM on Friday to chase asking if they would give me the bonus miles on my current card since I don't believe I ever received anything when I first signed up.  Let's see what they say first.  If not as long as what you suggested is true I will try it.  Thank  you again.

Right, I communicated with them right after I got the card, so they said after 1k 35k will post, and another 20k after another 1k spend.

So i finally received a response from chase after requesting the retention bonus.  apparently i don't have the card i thought i had.  like i said i've had this card for a very long time and assumed since its not a current card anymore that it was just converted into one of the current cards.  i guess not.
this is what they sent me.

If you would like to proceed with a product change of your
current MileagePlus account to the Explorer product please
be aware that you would not be eligible for any enrollment
bonus miles or the first year annual fee waiver. These
offers are only available to new account applications. We
are unable to apply 50,000 bonus miles to your existing
account.

Please also understand that the MileagePlus Explorer Card
select offer of 50,000 bonus miles is by invitation only.
If you were not personally solicited for this offer, we
welcome you to apply for the MileagePlus Explorer card
with 30,000 bonus miles offer. You can apply for the
MileagePlus Explorer card at www.chasecreditcards.com,
www.TheExplorerCard.com or call 1-888-744-6899.

Seems kind of strange that they would say i wouldnt be eligible for bonuses or fee waiver in the first paragraph and then suggest i apply to get the bonus?  i know my card gets 1 mile per dollar so i dont know what my card is considered.  also keep in mind that i signed up for ink last month and freedom this month.  is it a good idea to sign up for another card again?

thanks for your help.

It makes perfectly sense, you have a different card but if you want you can upgrade to the MPE but then you wouldn't get the bonus as the bonus is only for new "applicants" though you can apply for the card which would guve you the 35k (or lately renewed match to 55k) bonus.
Understand?

And if you haven't done alot of chase apps before but just did 2 then I would wait at least 3-6 months so that they shouldn't think ur excessively looking for credit.

Does this card get the close in fee waived?
