Mint and Gift cards(even though they're from Amex) purchases are both getting red flagged. They know the system, I think it's just a hit or miss situation.
Is it those purchases or is it going over 50% utilization of your credit line and/or prepaying.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Is it true that AMex will block these transactions to prevent people from getting points?

Here is alternative way to spend $1,000 at the Mint...buy 5 $200 E-Gift Cert's they now offer which never expire, and can be used for anything including the $1 direct ship coins.

Perhaps this is less risky...I confirmed the above with the US Mint CS rep. There is also no 10 day limit as w/ coins! Thus, a great way to activate multiple cards quickly and place the actual coin orders in a staggered fashion.

Would this make a difference as far as the CC is concerned? after all they probably both just show up as US Mint to the CC company. Why would this be safer?

What can I do with a box of a thousand one dollar coins?
Can I just bring it to my local bank and deposit it?
Any other ideas?
Thanks!

i think many people have been successful doing it with chase cards.
In order to understand recursion, you first need to understand recursion.

Done it once on Freedom last month. Just once with Chase. No issue with 1k

I don't think 1k will be a problem, but I'm sure abuse is.

As an aside, does Amex consider it a cash advance even if you're not purchasing coins that are legal tender (i.e. if purchasing bullion)?

check out this article on reuters: http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/05/07/idUS26765961420110507

You might as well link to Mr. Pickles' blog, Reuters is quoting Gary from VFTW, who is quoting Mr. Pickles...

But I guess this tells us word is getting around...

check out this article on reuters: http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/05/07/idUS26765961420110507

This article is just not honest. Gary says:

Quote
mrpickles is now blogging and recently posted an extensive explanation of buying coins from the US mint with your credit card to earn miles, and depositing the money back into the bank to pay off the credit card....It’s not as easy as it used to be, there are limits on the amount of money you can do this with (no doubt thanks to the Wall Street Journal piece on the practice)....the only real change was that the US Mint issued a warning on its website: “There is a 4-box $1 coin limit for every 10-day period on any and all $1 coin orders. Beyond that your credit card will not be authorized.” This is something that I can work with.

But the US Mint has actually issued a much more troubling warning:

Quote
The intended purpose of the Circulating $1 Coin Direct Ship program is to make $1 coins readily available to the public, at no additional cost, so they can be easily introduced into circulation—particularly by using them for retail transactions, vending, and mass transit. Increased circulation of $1 coins saves the Nation money. The immediate bank deposit of $1 coins ordered through this program does not result in their introduction into circulation and, therefore, does not comply with the intended purpose of the program.

By clicking “Add to Cart” I agree that I understand, and will comply with, the intended purpose of the program.

Additionally, why is he publicizing this on Reuters? This 'deal' became way more limited after it was published in the WSJ, as he himself notes. Is he looking to kill the deal? (or did Reuters just pick it out of his blog on their own?)
