Anyone have any experience? Recommendations? Is it worth it?

What kind of car?

I bought the Honda Care extended contract for my wife's Honda Pilot and thought it was worth it.  With Honda Care, the trick is to buy it from a dealer that specializes in selling Honda Care contracts -- I bought mine from a dealer in Massachusetts, while I bought my Honda from a dealer in NY.  Paid less than 1/2 of what the selling dealer wanted for the same contract.

Toyota Camry 2010 38k.
I was offered a warranty by a reliable mechanic/car dealer (lakewood Auto sales) from a company called (NAC) National Auto Care, For $1500.
Either 5 yr 50K, or 4 yr 75K.
They are rated on BBB A+ and have been around for about 26 yrs.

What does the warranty cover?

Review the coverage list VERY carefully.  Sometimes, it sounds like a lot is covered, but they exclude certain critical parts that aren't covered, but that 'always' go at the same time as a covered part, etc.  Also find out if the mechanic is compensated for selling the warranty -- if he isn't, he can help you review the coverage, and his recommendation is probably more valuable.

What does the warranty cover?
Officially Bumper to bumper, besides wear and tear.
It seems like the original 36K from Toyota.

What did you pay for what kind of coverage? How long does it last?

Now that's where it gets really iffy. If after 3 years your alternator dies, will they consider that wear and tear (after all, alternators are expected to be replaced every couple of years ), or will they cover it?

Also, do they come down to inspect the car, or is every thing just based off of your word/mechanic receipts?

We actually ended up buying the warranty, but largely because it covers lost keys (a real pain with these new keys which cost $350 to replace) but I think I will probably regret it

That article is talking about new cars. What about used cars (like the OP has)?

I have been thinking of getting a warranty as well. I have a 2005 Sonata with 80k.

I paid $700 something for 7 year, 80K mile Honda Care coverage (we don't put a lot of mileage on the car).  There were lots of options for # of years and mileage needs.  Bought it from Hyannis Honda over the phone.  They 'advertise' them on the web (they and other competitors), but I think are not allowed to sell them online (per Honda rules).  They faxed me the form to purchase, and I faxed back to them.  They have a pricing tool online which lets you see the pricing.

I paid Hyundai $1,000 for 10 years/100k miles. Do you think that is reasonable?

Sounds reasonable...guess it would depend on how comprehensive it was.

I just bought a 2010 sienna with almost 90k miles on it. Anybody have advice on an extended warranty? The bank (PenFed CU) offers a warranty from Route66 (route66warranty.com) for $1295, 3 years/36,000 miles. Anybody dealt with them? I'd rather get something a little longer.  Is there a different company you recommend? Thanks
