BA Award Travel on Cathay - Seat Assignment

Thanks to the Chase BA 100,000 bonus signup offer awhile back, instead of spending $750 on a roundtrip flight to Vancuver in December, I was able to book the flight on Cathay Pacific using 25,000 BA miles.

Only people who meet one of the below criteria are able to select their seats in advance.  All others can choose their "preferred seat up to 48 hours before your flight."

- Members of The Marco Polo Club and oneworld alliance holding elite status
- All First and Business Class passengers
- Passengers holding tickets on eligible fare types – Y, B, H, K, L, M, V

I am only elite on Delta and Continental, neither of which are part of the One World alliance and my ticket is an X fare type.

Is there any other way that I'd be able to book my seat assignments?  This is a long shot, but what if someone else whose elite on AA for example were to call?

To which airline? I'd prefer status match to an airline that I'd most likely never fly because you can only do so once in a lifetime...

By calling Cathay and paying for an extra legroom seat - $25 each way to Vancuver (pretty sweet deal) - I was able to choose my seats.
