I booked family of 9 for peasach TLV/NYC for a total of 156,000 points, I Stacked this deal with the companion discount, and originally transferred with 30% bonus (so affectively I only used about 120k points)  Plus the reg surcharge, good deal?

I've been looking at using VA miles to book Delta flights between JFK and various cities in Europe (CDG, FCO, ATH). It seems that they're charging high fees for flights from Europe to JFK, but for flights from JFK to Europe, they're just charging $5.60. Is this something new? I know that when I booked TLV-ATL, I only paid taxes.

You have to book RT to avoid the surcharges ex-Europe.

Seeing VS availability on Air France but not available when searching directly with VS. Phantom or need to call VS?

ETA: VS was able to make a booking over the phone, is it still possible to be phantom before it's ticketed? Didn't transfer the points yet...

Probably not. Call virgin there may actually be availability just online is a bit buggy/unreliable. Common to be this way. I’ve discovered award space this way (on fb or others, not themselves) many times then called to book.
