Food of Waldorf and Leonardo doesnt compare. WA much better... not even close
I've been by the Waldorf a few times & was there just recently Shabbos Chanukah. To say that the food wasn't good is an understatement. Presentation was decent but if you want to eat food WAJ is not the place. (Breakfast is great I'm referring to shabbos meals)

Every time, you didn't like the food?  I was there for a Shabbos dinner and I thought it was great and well worth the money for the amount and quality of the food and unlimited wine.

right- but if the room rate is free how can they charge VAT, maybe that's just for stuff that gets charged to the room? Or is there VAT even if using points? Anyone have experience?

You will defiantly pay VAT on your stay, VAT is calculated based a paid night stay.

Is this a Hilton thing?  With IHG the total cost is 0 - and yes, my account is registered to an Israeli address.

I agree.

Question is, is there any place close by to eat?  I don't really like the Plaza (Food was good but the whole experience) Do any restaurants offer Shabbos meals?

I ordered from shabboskodesh.com or something like that. The thing is I had a place to eat in the old city.

I ate there one Friday night and there was absolutely nothing to write home about. On Shabbos morning I just stuffed myself at a kiddush and had only challah at the Hotel. Was far better off that way.

You could eat a shabbos meal (which is Breakfast) except for meat. They serve a assortment of hot dishes.

I came back and saw what they had. I had to be by that kiddush anyway, so I just made sure to eat some extra. Was still more worthwhile this way around.

You should be charged VAT.
Why are you guys so sure? VAT is an additional percentage added to the price you paid. In this case you pay 0 so the tax should be 0.

I don't think they can legally charge you anything. This is akin to walking into a store that is selling something at a 50% discount and than tries to charge VAT on that 50% discount.

The VAT is supposed to go to the government, if Hilton charges you VAT on a 0$ stay, they are probably not giving it to the government.
