I am trying to score an upgrade to a suite at the Waldorf, there are 2 ways I can try to go about doing that.

A. Pay for an upgrade before I go to a higher than base level room, then upon arrival try to leverage my gold status for a suite upgrade.

B. Just rely on status alone to hopefully get an upgrade.

Any suggestions?

I have gold status and was upgraded but not to a suite. I think it depends on how full the hotel is. Hotel was pretty full when I went at the end of the year. Think the staff tries to upgrade when possible.

Send an email requesting the upgrade for a special occasion and youll likely be able to secure the upgrade for free before you arrive.

Thanks for the suggestion, I was wondering if the fact that I would already have a more expensive room, make it easier for them to upgrade me, or just better to ask?

And when you say email, do you mean the hotel, or Hilton?

Hotel directly, not Hilton. Not sure if having a more expensive room will help. Service at hotel is incredible and no request of ours was denied. Really went above and beyond and I'd think an email to them would certainly help your cause (assuming there's availability for a suite).

I emailed them, the response was,

Dear ...,

Thank you for contacting the Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem.

On the .... we are in high occupancy in the hotel. if rooms are available we will do our best.

Best Regards,

I'm wondering if it would help to put myself on paid standby? Does anyone have experience with the paid standby?
