Just finished my stay at the Waldorf Jerusalem. And I have to say service was brought up to a whole new level!!!

They have clearly made an effort and cracked the whip from the top all the way down to the bottom. Service on all levels improved dramatically.
Meh, not even close to the same category hotel in America or anywhere else. I found that most of it is fake service. They smile at you but they don’t come through with your requests like heir supposed to.

Agree.
It's 5* by Israel standards only.

I’m comparing the service to what they had

And I have to say they stepped up

Is it Asia. No. Is it USA level of service I would say it is.

So what would be a comparable hotel in the US. Would the PH NYC count?

IME, the service at the WAJ way surpassed the PH NYC. Don't really stay in hotels in the US, but it was also similar to the PH Chicago

I've stayed at the WAJ for several weeks already. No idea what kind of service y'all are getting there, but we certainly didn't have anything memorably amazing. Plenty of shortfalls.

I transferred rooms on the second day of my stay because I wanted a balcony. When I came in to the room it was 86 degrees. Air conditioner was broken. It took them 45 min for them to start fixing it. Either way the front  desk told me that I had to wait for the room because it was in middle of being cleaned. If somebody just checked out from there hen they should know hat the AC was broken... at least the person that cleaned it should say. Next.. when I called up from the 86 degree room and asked to get a different room or upgrade to suite, he tells me there are none available. There were definitely plenty suites, including junior suites available online.... standard Israeli service.
They didn’t attach my license plates correctly for the garage parking so when I went out it was a whole hassle both times.
Breakfast takes 40 min to come. Etc etc...

Waldorf was sold.to a Jew from France.
Waldorf policy is breakfast only for 2 people regardless of status or how many people are in the room kids under 3 are free .
Hilton tlv has same policy was tgere last week and by breakfast they told  I was only allowed 2 people for breakfast so my 2 kids would eat downstairs and my wife and I ate upstairs in lounge.

There is no way you should have let them do this to you at the Hilton Tel Aviv (and I'm not a pushy person that ask for lots of stuff at hotels).  I've been there multiple time and if any of your party are under 16 and can't go in the lounge for breakfast they will allow the whole family to eat together in the restaurant.  One time the front desk lady gave me pushback and I just asked them how they expected me to send my kids to the restaurant by themselves and they realized that would be idiotic.

Good advise, children and parents should eat at the restaurant in such a case.

I didn't care to eat in the lounge I went down with my kids while they ate and my wife was sleeping , I've  gotten upgraded to croner suite so usually brought along a sibling or cousin to watch my kids so bot a big deal or worth fighting over

Sorry to ask a question that I know has been covered here but I couldn't remember or find the answer.  A friend of mine just made aliyah and is under the impression that any rooms booked in her name will now have a the 17% VAT added.  I told her a points booking shouldn't have any VAT since the charge is zero but she was somehow worried they will charge her VAT on the regular paid rate...that isn't correct is it?  There is not VAT on points bookings, even for Israelis, is there?

Any recent issues with checking in as a secondary?
Should just the secondary go to check in and the other person (not on reservation) wait outside?
