While I'm trying to confirm this report I have heard from a family member that is involved in this hotel that ST Regis is looking to buy the king david as a answer to this hotel. They say there are some big companies involved looking to buy it and bring in SPG to run the hotel as a St Regis.

of course, but his point was that it would be odd to run it as a st regis since the king david is probably more prestigious

Someone PM'd me about my experience at the Waldorf shabbos meals so I'm posting my 2 cents.

We ate the Friday night meal at the hotel. The meal was delicious. Each course had a choice of traditional shabbos food or more elegant dish. The meal started with a spread of interesting salads, potato salad with herring on top, caviar, pickled peppers... The first course consisted of gefilte fish and salmon. For soup there was a choice of chicken soup or a heavy mushroom soup, almost like mushroom sauce and very tasty.

Main course was a choice of chicken, duck, roast beef or lamb chops. The waitress brought us all four and explained that the mashgiach doesn't let them write and it's too hard to keep track of the orders so they bring out everything. The chicken was nothing special, the roast beef was good, the duck came with an interesting side of steamed purple cabbage and was quite good. But the lamb chops were out of this world.

The dessert was some sort of delicious layered cake and ice cream, definitely worth asking for doubles but I was too full. The service was great, of course. They served wine, I assume it was mevushal. The day meal was not an option for us since they don't start until 1:00. I don't like waiting that long, although we did take advantage of the regular breakfast, of which I have extensive pictures (from during the week) if anyone is interested.

Hope I didn't bore anyone.

The menu states that you get a choice of one. However, while I was still mulling over the choices the waitress put all 4 on our table even though it was just myself and wife. She explained that they are not allowed to write like I mentioned in original post. It was interesting to me since they were non jews. Maybe they were so generous because I went in August during the war when the hotel wasn't very full so they had lots extra.

The mashgiach is Elyashiv Nafha. His number is 054-950-9068. He seems like a haimishe guy. Very accessible and eager to answer questions. He told me usually the meat is badatz rubin etc. but since running the hotel is such a big operation, they sometimes need another supplier, rabanut mehadrin. When I asked him if on that particular shabbos they used rabanut meat, he said he can never guarantee that it wasn't used.
I don't know if anything has changed since then.

Has anyone transferred Virgin Atlantic to Hilton before and can tell me how long it took? I have the targeted Amex offer for 1:1.35 to VA, and then with the 1:1.5 ratio on VA to HH, I can save a ton of points booking the Waldorf..
