If on May 18 2012 (the day of the Facebook IPO) one had invested in a broad index fund like the Vanguard 500 fund, they would be up 30% as of today, with far less risk.

Is everyone here a casual trader who uses Scotttrade, E-Trade, TDAmeritrade..ect and manages their own portfolios and retirements or are there people here who work in the financial industry contributing to the "stock tips" and reports?

They just had a heavy drop last week. Might be the bottom and good time to jump in. Tough call.. Supposedly their sales stink.

why "supposedly"? The recent earnings report showed they had to take a $900 million writedown for lack of sales of the Surface RT

I would assume more the casual traders or day traders but not many "high volume" large entity trader. It would be great though if people really delved deeper into the posts and back-uped their "ratings" as everyone is looking for good returns but might have a different idea of what exactly that is or how to get there.
