Signing up for a PayPal account is free and easy, and provides a fast, safe and convenient way to pay online. You can also send and receive money to and from friends and family.
PayPal protects your financial information by enabling you to transact using your email address only, so whether you’re paying from your bank account, credit or debit card or PayPal balance, no sensitive details are revealed to your transaction partners!
Individual buyers and sellers can choose between a Personal and Premier account.
Personal accounts are for buyers only. A Premier account is for individuals who buy and sell online and are not a business. The Premier account enables you to:
Trade as yourself, under a corporate or group name;
Accept all payment types without being charged set-up, monthly or account
keeping fees. All you pay is a low fee per transaction;
Choose your payment receiving preferences and access Advanced
Downloadable History (transaction) Logs, and
Send Mass Payments and organise Subscriptions and access Merchant
Services such as Website Payment products, Email Payments, PayPal as
an Additional Payment Option, Auction Tools and Seller Protection on qualifying eBay transactions.
Personal account holders who are interested in selling can upgrade to a Premium account at no cost or open a separate Premium account.
You can have one Personal account and one Premium account, so long as each account is created using separate email addresses and financial information (credit or debit card or bank account).

Fees
PayPal charges fees on two transaction types, and in certain other instances:
1. Fees for buying or selling goods and services (commercial transactions)
Buyers pay no fees for domestic transactions (where both buyer and seller accounts are registered with PayPal Australia), and when no currency conversion is required.
Buyers pay a currency conversion fee for cross-border transactions (where one PayPal account is registered with PayPal Australia and another account is registered with a PayPal site outside Australia). The conversion fee depends on the particular currency being used.
Sellers are charged for receiving payments. The fee rate is different for domestic and cross border transactions.
2. Fees for sending or receiving money without buying or selling (personal transactions)
Senders can choose whether they or their recipient pays any fees incurred (if any).
Senders pay no fees for domestic payments which are sent entirely from their PayPal account balance or bank account (if one is attached), and when no currency conversion is required.
A fee is charged when a currency conversion is involved. This fee depends on the particular currency being used.
Senders pay a fee for cross-border payments which are sent entirely from their PayPal account balance or bank account (if one is attached). This fee rate depends on the country the payment is sent to.
Any payment sent entirely from a credit or debit card incurs a fee. This fee rate is different for domestic and cross border transactions.
Any payment sent using a combination of a credit card (or debit card) and a bank account (or PayPal balance) incurs a fee for the amount paid by card. This fee rate is different for domestic and cross border transactions.
