Interesting story...looking for any advice if anyone knows...
Got onto the train this morning....either I forgot to scan my card to pay or the machine didn't catch it. I do know for a fact that I took out my card to pay as I checked the balance a minute before the train came at the automated machine and there was money on the card...
..and so...a couple stops later the inspectors come by and check cards and lo and behold my card hadn't apparently been swiped!
The guy must have been new on the job as he didn't know what to do and called his supervisor...by the time he came around it was my stop so I got off and he followed.
The conversation then went like this:
Him: Passport?
Me: Not Israeli, here's my USA license.
Him: Passport number?
Me: I don't know it.
Him: Health Insurance card?
Me: Don't have it.
Him: Address?
Me: Not giving it.
Him: How long have you been living here?
Me: What's the difference?
Him: I don't want to call the Police and make this a whole big thing...
Me: So, mah kesher (what's the shaychus?
He just starts talking on his walkie talkie wondering what to do with this crazy American...
You get the jist...so he starts plugging in my USA driver's license and asks me to sign the ticket which I didn't...and then he hits print on his machine as it is supposed to print out a receipt of sorts to attach to the paper ticket (if I'm wrong about that please let me know)...but the machine froze and he had to reset it. That happened a second time after which I got 'restless' and started telling him to hurry up (in Israel you can get away with giving attitude to authority)
At the end, nothing ever ended up printing out, they handed me back my Rav Kav (bus/train pass) and ID and didn't say anything. I never received a ticket, I didn't give them any info and they apparently couldn't just read it off the card so they say..(even though you need to give them all that info when getting the card!)
Do I have anything to worry about?
TIA
