need help with lap child awards ticket..

due to not having enough points in my UA account, i booked my round trip tlv-ewr via 2 one way tickets. now i know that UA charges 10% of the actual flight costs for a lap child. The problem is that UA wants to charge me for the lap child also as 2 one way tickets. They are pricing each ticket at about $1700 making the lap child over $300! I asked how much they would price the round trip, they said $1300 dollars! Any one have any ideas?

back to the original topic. Any one have any ideas about what i can do. (i spoke to whyaich but his idea was too risky) does anyone know a way to take 2 separate award reservations and connect them?
