Also Atiki Bar & Grill is where many locals go for Hookah.

Sheraton Meterie is really nice. Very underpriced at 3K Starpoints per weekend night. They also have airport shuttle service. I stayed there on a Sunday night before a early Monday morning flight and was pleasantly surprised how nice this Category 2 hotel was. We got upgraded to club level which is always cool!

I have a weekend conference at the New Orleans Riverside Hilton. Any shuls near there? My big concern is that it's Parshas Zachar.

thanks for the tip! I just booked this one - but it's 4K SPG now (Sun night stay). Any tips on getting upgraded? I'm newly emboldened by a successful $50 trick upgrade at the Bellagio 8)

Also, does anyone know about Rabbi Polsky or Anshe Sfard? He has a standing offer to host tourists for Shabbat dinner, and the shul is under a mile from our Shabbat hotel.

ushdadude, it's just under 2 mi from yours...

I saw. Thanks. Let me know what you here about him and the shul. The lectures start at 8 so I would have to make special arrangements to be able to hear parshas zachar with him.

Is it crazy to try and do SF Plantation without a car? In general, can I get away without having a car in New Orleans?

I have a weekend conference at the New Orleans Riverside Hilton. Any shuls near there? My big concern is that it's Parshas Zachar.

I stayed there- found a shul nearby that I walked to Friday night. Long walk and was through a really grungy gross neighborhood, didn't really feel so safe to me, but that's just the way I felt.

On another note, I was hilton gold and got upgraded to the executive level with access to the lounge. The lounge is nice, but the executive levels are really high up-something I didn't consider until I was walking up 20 flights of stairs.

In general, can I get away without having a car in New Orleans?

I took a shared shuttle to the Hilton. Wasn't bad at all. That being said after I had walked around a little I wanted to get out of the downtown area (getting to the Jewish areas for example you'd need a car, and I needed one to hit up all the CVSes in the area for about 20k in VRs  ;D ). Anyway, the rental price isn't the problem, the parking is- its super expensive. There's a Hertz right near the Hilton. Thing is they were booked out of rental cards with about 4 people waiting in line. On the other hand they had 3 cars sitting there that were hourly rentals, and it ended up costing me less overall to rent by the hour-I got the app and key dongle right there and walked out with a car while everyone else sat there complaining and hoping someone would return a regular rental. Anyway, again renting when I wanted to get out, I saved on the rental, gas, and parking fees, was definitely the way to go. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for all the info! I emailed the shul and they won't have a minyan this Friday night and I can't make it during the day.  :( I'm Hilton silver so I don't know if I'll get upgraded. I only plan on walking up and down twice so I'll try. Hertz sounds like a great idea. I'll look into it. Thanks!

Absolutely. Wish I had called-walked all the way there Friday night and the shul was closed  :-\
At least I got to see part of the city...and no offense to people from there, but I did not like it one bit.

You get gold with the hilton reserve card I think (at least that's how I think I had it).

Do you remember which hertz location? I called the one on Convention BLVD and they had no idea what I'm talking about.
I'm not going to apply for a cc just for the privilege of walking up 20 flights  :P Maybe I'll ask for an upgrade motzei shabbos

Yeah that's the one. It's called Hertz 24/7. Looked at their site but it doesn't list that location anymore. Definitely where I got it from, maybe they discontinued it there  :-\

I guess ask the manager of the branch-it was less than a year ago...

As of July 9th Uber wasn't operating in NOLA. Cab was $30 from MSY to The Quarter.
If you are going to be there for Saturday night, hit up Frenchman Street best music performances. Hope you enjoy pregaming for Purim!
