The worst time to go is during Mardi Gras.
It is too crazy to enjoy...

Do any basic research on Mardi Gras and you will understand why most ppl on this forum would describe the atmosphere on bourbon st as disgusting (does not require one to me a מבין)
And with that same logic I'd imagine most people would avoid it during that time altogether if they want to avoid that atmosphere.

Absolutely. I was there the week after for a conference and it still smelled.

Just read the entire thread. Thinking of going to NOLA for 2 nights/1 day over Chol HaMoed Pesach. Obviously the restaurants are not going to be open.

1. Is it worth going for such a short stay?
2. Where's the "best" place to stay? The Sheraton Metairie is now 7k/night, the Hilton Riverside is 60k night and Hyatt is either 12k or 15k night. Is downtown, Metairie or the FQ better?

Most of the things to do are pretty concentrated.

I had a conference in the Hilton so we stayed there. Nice room with a view of the river.
I personally hated everything about the French Quarter so I'm the wrong person to ask

Iirc (which I might not) everything we did was walkable or a really quick cab ride. If you're only there for a day you can stay busy locally

Ah, ok. So maybe I'll look into the downtown area. I'm so used to downtown NYC or LA which are pretty dead at night and not the touristy place to stay.

Also did you go to Metairie often?

I would imagine the FQ is more "happening". although we were across the street from the casino
Everything i did is in my mini TR.

I read it, don't worry, I wasn't asking what you did, rather if where you stayed was good. Going to Metairie seemed a bit of a hassle though.

Not too much.  St.  Charles streetcar, Royal St. in the FQ, a swamp tour, cemetery your, or something else. We'd only have one day and it'd be with a baby so I can't imagine all that much more than two or three things.

we looked into a swamp tour but decided against it for 2 reasons. 1) the weather wasn't appropriate for it. 2) it would have taken too much time.
I highly recommend the WW2 museum.

So it could be the museum, FQ just because and the streetcar. Should take the day.

Do you think a car is necessary?
