Some questions
« on: March 21, 2012, 11:04:49 PM »
1- Why isn't there a book or a tutorial for dummies or people that have no time to read thousands of posts? I'll pay! (In miles earned...or is that illegal?)
2- How do you organize all your credit cards and keep track of when to close when the year is up?
3- How do you keep track if which card to use for which type of purchase while you are trying to meet your spending minimum? (Or you don't need to because you do amazon payments, venmo to meet the minimum etc...)
4- When do you have time to sit and read thousands of posts with family and work responsibilities? (I'm a working mom...)

Just some thoughts roaming through my head...

1. No pain, no gain. Also, you don't have to read every post, you have to know what's important and where to find that. Savvyness isn't for everyone IMHO, some have more of it than others.
2. Excel. If you monitor your statements, you can always get a retention bonus when the fee hits, then cancel a week or two later :D
3. I oversimplify it, and don't maximize my category spending, but there are other solutions as well. I also use creative solutions (e.g. the ones you named and others) to reach spend requirements.
4. If you're efficient (see #1), you don't have to spend hours. Go for the low hanging fruit and you can put in ~2-3 hours a week on DDF and clear $10k+ (+++) a year playing the game (and have fun doing it).

Once you get the initial hang of it you won't have to spend too much time on DD/DDF

I too don't really have too much time to read everything on the site but I have a phone with internet so when I have breaks from work/school I just browse from my phone to see if anything interesting had been posted...

I dont know of any "churning for dummies" books, but on the main site Dan periodically posts great roundups of the best CC's and general good churning tips, (like how churning affects credit etc) which i would recommend reading because they're clear and very easy to understand for beginners

Going to have to disagree with you here. The easiest part is picking the low hanging fruit as one member describes it. This takes the least amount of time and effort. Once you are done with that the real work begins. AsherO gave his take on what it takes to make 10k. Now what if you want to make 20k? It will be more than twice as hard and goes up from there.

Obviously at some point the scale could tip towards continuing down the mileage road and dropping the day job...
Until then, most people reach for the low hanging, maybe some mid hanging fruit...

@helpme, I hear ya but at least for me once I understood the basics and churned a few cards I didn't need nearly as much time as in the beginning (granted I dont make $20k off of this. Just a couple of really nice vacations :) and my guess is that the op is striving for the same goals)

If that works for you then that is all that matters.

Is this allowed? Isn't it against the ruled to talk about selling miles etc?

Yes. Maybe more. Especially if you add bank offers.
