So first ill share one.
For those who don't know how to put a Treo on roaming only this is for you.

turn on your Treo>Go to Phone>Go to the menu on the top(you can do so by clicking the key on the bottom row all the way to the right)>Go to the option's tab>Then select roaming preferences> Now simply choose roaming only in the network selection option's.

I have only tried it on a Sprint phone, so I'm not sure it will work with others though i don't see why not.

How to do this on other Sprint Phones coming soon.
Zalman.

If you want to set it to EVDO only, go to ##3836# that should let you choose between EVDO/1X/HYBRID.

Hope this helps.

That function is buggy on some phones...it can cause call calls to go straight to voicemail.

Yea, I didn't have a very good experience with it either, but it's a function nonetheless.

I think this thread might prove to be useless since the methods change from phone to phone and carrier to carrier.
Your best bet is to ask a SPECIFIC question and hope someone has the answer. The method for these things is totally different on say, a Treo vs a HTC WM device, which is completely different from doing this on a CDMA network like Sprint vs GSM like T-mobile.  (For example, switching to roaming isn't possible on many GSM phones without enabling a special "field test mode", which also differs from phone to phone).

This is almost like asking "let's talk about how to fix anyone's check engine light on the car"... there's no single set of rules that will work for everyone. I say read the manual, and do some research on tethering policies for your carrier (VZ and AT&T are harder to tether with).

Mordy, though you do have a point there, most consumer models on Sprint and on others as well thy have the same software more or less, So if i post how to get roaming only for a regular not high and cell phone it will work for most. So it's not 100% like asking how to fix that engine light thing.

Here are some.

##DATA# (##3282#) - data provisioning
##DEBUG# (##33284#) - typical debug menu

On verizon its #*#33284#

##ERR# (##377#) - shows last error
##EVDO# (##3836#) - force or disable EVDO
##HWTST# (##49878#) - hardware test
##PREV# (##7738) - sets the P_REV of your voice calls
##PRI# (##774#) - reset your PRI (advance)
##RTN# (##786#) - lifetimer counter
##TIME# (##8463#) - displays current time

##633# Turn the phone radio OFF
##66# Turn the phone radio ON

Go to the SMS screen, not inside a chat log.
To the main SMS screen that lists All your chat sessions
Then push Menu(pull down menu button) and S
Hold them, the phone will beep about 3 times .
release both buttons after u hear the beeps.
and then push Menu button again.
Secret Menu will apear!

When you pressed the menu for the 2nd time you did not see a longer menu? Im using a 755p rite now and it works.

I think this is a perfect example of why this thread i useless... I wouldn't be surprised if it was different on the centro vs the 755.
Go to a real cell phone forum where they have specific sections by carrier and model, you'll find more info and its kept more up to date.
Just my opinion.

Dan, I wouldn't be surprised since the OS didn't change as far as I know. But, once again, this wouldn't work on ANY of my phones, even the Sprint ones (samsung m300, Mogul, Samsung M510).

All we need is for people to come looking at this info and then posting "how come it doesn't work on my xyz phone?".

Mordy that's what forums are for, people can ask wtvr thy want, there are many forums on cars, why did some-1 come here to ask what is a good car in the 50k range? As far as i understand this dansdeals forums is for anything you wish to talk about. Or im starting to get the feeling that you make some kind of argument every time i post something, though i strongly hope thats not the case.

Rover, I'm not discouraging conversation, I just hate it when forums make a mess of information that ends up confusing people more than it helps...

[edit: too much information, specific examples of threads gone wrong removed, especially since external links to forums are discouraged]

The title of the thread should really be more specific (in this case, "Tips and Tricks for Sprint Treos" since the info in here pertains specifically to those models. Yes, some of your info here will not work on other sprint phones, and some of it will not work on Treos with other carriers such as AT&T).

So yes, I stand by my analagy- this is like "How to fix your check engine light", and then you in and all it talks about is a Dodge Neon.

For those who don't know how to put a Treo on roaming only this is for you.

Why would I want to put my phone on roaming only?
