If I have expiring points on one of the merging airlines, will merging the accounts extend the life of the points?

Thats a good question. I was thinking that it's possible that anyone who has 2 accounts merging will get extension on their expiration date. But who knows....

I called the AA EXP line on Fri and the agent who picked up was a US chairman preferred agent. She said that they are in training now.

i didnt read the whole thread till here,
but as many times i tried to merge my accounts it just didnt match. now i just added the title Mr. /Mrs. and worked wonderful!

I had to add birthday and gender to get one of my wife's accounts to match.

I don't know how long this has been up, but I just saw it now: AA says that accounts need to be linked by March 20 (tomorrow)!

All that will happen is that they will create a new AA FF# to dump your US miles into. Then you'll have to merge the extra AA accounts together.

The prevailing school of thought is to link NOW so they DON'T create a new FF# for you since AA can be very -- shall we say -- sensitive to anything that smells like gaming the system. Even merging accounts COULD bother them.

I imagine you've seen the articles floating around that the merger for points will take place this coming Saturday. Should we take bets on potential glitches that might happen during the merger? Or is it worthless because they'll be fixed by the time Shabbos is over?
