Okay, I saw some comments that seem like nonsense, so I decided to skip.

In Hong Kong, you should try to stay in the vicinity of Robinson Road (in the Island [Soho-Mid Levels]) which is close to the official shul and chabad.

I stayed at the Bishop Lei International house (=hotel), which was okay.

Make sure you ask for a low low floor !

Concerning Bangkok, if you are a seasoned traveler you would finish visiting it in half-three quarter day.

Besides the Grand Palace there isn't so much to see. (the boat-market isn't every day). (chabad is beautiful there, having even an elal check-in counter  ;) ).

I would suggest that you take a 1 hour flight south, where you have magnificent scenery.

(sorry for the vague hints, its just quite late here, and the fireworks is keeping me awake.

Thanks for the tips. Does anyone know how far is the Grand Hyatt from either shul on the island. It looks gorgeous and i would love to stay there if possible.

It's about 30-40 min. walk from the closest Shul - Shuva Israel.
BTW, there is a brand new Hyatt Regency (2 months old) openend one minute away from Chabad in Kowloon. Been there, beutiful done!
pm for rates and Up's as I just set with the GM for a meeting a few weeks ago.
Good luck!

I'll second that. I saw the new Hyatt on Mody Rd. last week and it is pretty cool with a W type flair. The location (right off Nathan Road and a 5 minute walk to the Star Ferry) is excellent. It is not as luxurious as the Grand Hyatt on Hong Kong Island but is definitely both modern and nice...

Hi all
I will prob. be doing a similar trip with my wife after pessach. I want to visit 3 places in asia and have about 7-8 days time. I was thinking of Bangkok, Honk Kong and Beijing. How many days would you reckon in each place? Were is the nicest place for shabbes, I want it to be a special experience. Any other cities I should consider? Are these 3 a good choice?
My goal is to have see as much as possible, I want to do the exotic things, that can be done without kids, since I will be leaving all kids by my parents and dont know, when this is possible next. I read through all the trip reports, happy for any advice you can give me

7-8 days including flying time is not enough time for all 3 cities. My advice would be to skip Bangkok as there is not that much to see there and do 3 days in Hong Kong and 4 in Beijing. Shabbos in Hong Kong and Beijing is convenient as both cities have several hotels within short walking distance of Chabad and the likes.

I hope to do most flying at night, since I am going first, sleep should not be a problem.
I really want to get 3 places if possible, what else is worth it instead of bangkok.

What can one see 3 days in Honk Kong? Isnt 3 in beijing, 2 in Honk Kong and 2 in ??? better?

Shabbes, were is it nicer Beijing or Honk Kong. I wanna know were it will be a special uplifting experience, a shabbes to remember?!

Sleep on the plane or not, (I have traveled to Asia many times in Business & First) 15-18 Hours on the plane will tire you out and you will not be able to tour from morning to night every day.

I would include 3 days in Hong Kong so you can do Shenzehn and Macau as well. Other than the Grand Palace, there is not much at all to see in Bangkok , plus it adds on a lot of travel time as it is almost 3 hours south of Hong Kong and 6 from Beijing. If you want to add in another city maybe try Shanghai.

As per Shabbos, if you are looking for uplifting, beautiful and excellent food together with 50-100 other Yidden then Kehillat Zion in Kowloon (Hong Kong) will be your best option. If there is a trade show at the time there can be as many as 250 people there for Shabbos.

The Venitian is an experience in itself. The shopping, Cirque De Soleil, and a nice pool to boot. We are not gamblers and were awed nonetheless. It's double the size of its counterpart in Las Vegas and suites are pretty cheap as well

Oh and thanks to the idiot who keeps "smite"ing me each time that I mention Kehillat Zion. Grow Up!

Yes,

http://www.shanghai-jews.com/

If Jewish history interests you then the tour is a reason in itself to go. Other than that it is like Hong Kong. Lots of big building and malls. In fact, more big buildings than any other city in the world.

Other than Beijing, my favorite city in Asia is Singapore. Extremely clean, compact, and lots to see and do. The Shopping there can't be beat and the kosher restaurant and Coffee Bean are an added bonus. Perfect for a 48 hour stop though its the furthest major city in Asia from New York

and no, Mr. XXX i will not stoop to your level and keep clicking on the "smite" tab next to your name. Some of us are actually here to contribute!

It really all depends on taste. What sort of things do you enjoy?
