Upgrading the checking account? I think they don't allow transfers because of tax reasons or something

Assuming he upgraded to premier?

I have trouble transferring points in general. I have some earned from checking and some from forward. I have a premier. Won't let me transfer them all.
In dw's account she has just checking typ - none from any cc and no premier and I can't figure out how to even transfer them to mine (about 20k) slash I'm not sure if I could. Chat wasn't working will try later.

I've heard of downgrading, but upgrading, what is that? :D

Checking points can't be transferred to partners or others.
But surely you should know that...

Figured. I'm hazy on it.
So: checking points can't be transferred to others or airline, even if you have a premier. CC points can be transferred to others even without a premier, and to others + airlines if you have a premier.

Honestly, I hate it. A point should be a point. So confusing.

So does everyone.
Leave it to Citi to come up with something so convoluted.

I have found in the past when FI's come up with stupid stuff like this they are easier to exploit.
I just found a new supply of forks!

From what I am gathering it may be related to the differences in how they are (or aren't) taxed. Which does makes some sense if you think about it.
But IMO if they can't be combined the entire program should just be called something else.

Because they're taxed they can't become miles? Huh?

Can't or won't?  The point is transfers (like to another TY account in the olden days) make complications with tax reporting. Who gets the 1099 - the one who earned or the one who redeemed?

What does that have to do with transfer to miles?

The redemption determines the amount of the tax, so maybe there are questions around the value of such a redemption? Or whether a transfer constitutes a redemption in the first place? Just spitballing, idk.

Do any other banks transfer taxable points to miles?

AMEX and Chase don't offer points for banking.
Chase used to offer UA miles for opening checking accounts (killed by Mr. Dodd) but they never 1099d for that.
