WARNING:

I just checked my AA Citi card which I used to fund my 2010 Chase account and the $500 initial deposit posted as a Cash Advance!! Chase said they are looking into it and Citi said all I can do is argue the charge. Anyone have this happen.
This is bizarre because I used the same card last time and it posted as a purchase.

Ive had problems both ways, funded an acct that Citi put thru as a Purchase but US bank didnt care and changed it to a CA but since it was for alot more then my CA limit they simply declined it, no harm done.

Another time Citi although telling me it will be aPurchase put it thru as aCA

So you 1st need to find out who did what

Chase put it through as a CA. The manager I spoke with said that was the policy, but I said the website stated not so, as per Dan, however I looked on the application and didn't see it stated exactly. Anyone know where it says it? She said they will get back to me.

Just checked my statement as well! Also got
ADVANCES*TRANSACTION FEE   $15.00 and
ADVANCES*INTEREST CHARGE*PERIODIC RATE   $7.89

Anyone been able to get this off? Im not even sure where to start...do i call Chase or Citi?

Wow I guess Citi is cracking down on funding with their credit cards.

I've never had a problem funding with a Chase credit card.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Same with me!!!! When opening the account they warned me that it would go through as a cash advance so I quickly took back my cc and gave them $$ from a diff account but I argued with the banker saying that it stated online that it will not go
through as a ca but they didn't beleive me.....

Why do you assume it's Citi who changed and not Chase. Citi said they coded it as a CA. I used the same CC last time and it was a purchase. Where in Chase's app did you see them say it wouldn't be a CA?

If U used money that was in another Chase acct and transferred it to the new acct. You wont get the Miles since it ha sto be new $$ = $$ not already in a Chase acct. ASAP if this is what you did deposit new $$ into that new acct.I believe Chase gives us 30 days to fund it with new money, we had to do that with 1 of our accts since we transferred from an existing Chase acct when we too had problems using a CC

You were right Dan! I just had a 20-minute conference call with Chase, Citi, and me and Citi is adamant that any charges to open bank accounts should be coded as a CA, even though Chase codes them as a purchase. They won't even let me dispute the charge! Chase is calling me back to figure out how they can void the transaction.
This is ridiculous considering you can fund a Citi account with a Citi card for 50K as a purchase!!!

Chase just told me they will credit my account for the fees Citi charges me- I guess that's OK, but of course I won't get the 500 miles. Next time I'll be wiser and use a chase CC.

Do you think this is the end of citi funding even citi bank accounts?

Yes.

If they still offer funding with a CC when opening an account should I use a Chase card?

No--I spoke to a Chase representative by phone. I wasn't able to apply for the personal card on line because of a glitch--so I called and completed that end on the phone. I then asked to be transferred to the business card side of Chase and it was by this dept. that I was informed that I couldn't apply because my state didn't have a branch office.
