The odds of hitting the numbers are exactly the same whether the jackpot is $10MM or $500MM.

$16MM becomes less than $5MM in a lump sum after taxes. Which is awesome, bot not enough to buy a private island

However the more people that buy the bigger the chance that 2 tickets will have the same number, and then the prize is split

I think the last time the lotto was this near big it was won by 2 people

Fair enough, but $500MM would have to be split a lot of times to get down to $16MM.

Thats something I'm really not concerned at all: sharing the same number with someone else + winning the lottery. Very low chance...
