So is it better to win 100 mil by yourself or win 640 mil and split it with one or two peolple?  ;D

I thought about that right after I posted  :)
In any case its an incorrect calculation.  I would guess that there were at least 10 times the amount of tickets sold for this jackpot then there is sold for the average winning 50mm jackpot.

So the question really is, would you rather win 50mm yourself or split 640 at least 10 times.

640/10=64.
What's the question?

And figuring that there will be 10 winners is funny math based on them selling 10 times the normal amount of tickets as there aren't normally 172 million tickets sold, which is the number required for there to be an average of one guess per possible combination.

They would have to sell 1.72 billion tickets for there to be an average of 10 guesses on each possible combo.  That's nearly 6 tickets for every American alive, including those in states where they don't sell MM tickets.

"In Southern California's Coachella Valley, consumers are spending up to 10 times more than usual on Mega Millions tickets, says David Woosley, field consultant for several 7-Eleven stores.

"It's been outrageous," Woosley says. "Every customer coming in is buying at least eight tickets. I'm seeing people buying $50 to $100 worth rather than the $2 to $3 they usually spend.""

Do people really think that buying 100 tickets will help them out that much more than buying one ticket?
Really unbelievable. People are really dumb
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

Not sure i would want to win this given the extra publicity the winner will have.

You have a year to claim it. You can wait 10-12 months for all the hype to die down.

the one guy here which won a million once, plays every day he says! (he also wrote a book about the technique of winning)
btw he also says never to go with QP but choose ur numbers....(never mind the lady next to him which won $112 mil thru QP)

"Around 7:15 p.m. Friday night, a person came to a 7-Eleven store in Baltimore, Maryland, and paid $1 for a "quick pick" of one line of numbers -- which ended up exactly matching those pulled less than four hours later."

I doubt that's public knowledge.  Though to throw a complete guess out there with no basis at all, I'll say 50/50.

Not a bad guess:

50% is paid out, 35% ends up in state coffers, and 15% is for retailers who sell the tickets and lottery operating costs.

Wow, dead on!
I think we were talking about how much of each ticket went into the grand prize not how much was paid out.
