Question is, do I buy it on an Amex for the extended warranty or on the Freedom for the 5%? Does Freedom have a comparable extended warranty program? Would it cover this refurb?

I'd go with the warranty. Not worth the measly $14 (and that's if you value them at .02cpm) of UR.

No one has warranties like AmEx.

From the meager research I've been able to do so far it seems that my Chase Freedom Signature Visa would extended the warranty from 1 year to 2. Is there a qualitative difference between the Visa warranty and the Amex warranty?

Seems like they might have changed that policy:

Visa say that it doesn't cover used or pre-owned items. I wonder if that includes refurbs.
edit: This guy seems pretty sure that it doesn't (ie refurbs are covered).

Like Skyguy pointed to, I looked over the AmEx T&C and there was nothing in there regarding refurbs. Dan was the one who initially said it and because he didn't correct me, I'll just assume it changed since then.

Since I was the one who had a refurb covered under warranty I would say go for it. The process is almost hassle free and my account was credited in less than a week

wow missed out on this deal imo is much better then the hp touchpad although its only a 7 in screen
