A friend of mine met the head US dept of Jordanian Airlines (or something like that I don't remember the official title) he claimed that as long as you don't leave the airport there's Mamesh nothing to worry about

AMM is full of Americans as the military uses it as a ME Base

Had a 12 hr stopover in AMM in August, during Ramadan.
They put us in an airport hotel w/ meal vouchers which didn't help us.
We sat outside at the Muslims had their evening meal to break the fast, and besides feeling out of place and covering my head, it was all enjoyable.

Some Israeli's and religious girls on our flight went into Amman for the day.
