“Hyatt had owned the hotel with the intention of turning it into a long-term management contract,” Reay said.

And in fact, Hyatt’s Alila brand has obtained such a management contract with the new owner, Hyatt said.

Ventana was unavailable my last trip. I stayed at Carmel Highlands Hyatt, it's nice but time share hotel so rooms were weird.

The views though we're insane!!

Not many hotels in the area. You can go up or down the coast and there's a lot of options

Caramel valley ranch was beautiful  but inland like 10 min. I really loved it! Also cat 7.

I never stayed in ventana, that and the Napa property were both switching to cat 8 but there was no award availability when I went In April.

Carmel Highlands has fantastic ocean views etc but not as nice room's, somewhat dated

I am planning to be in LA from 1/19/2023 - 1/29/2023 on mid winter break with the kids. We are hoping to do only part of the PCH and was thinking about going up to Big Sur. The issue right now there is a road closure between Hurst Castle and Big Sur because of flooding so Hurst Castle is likely the farthest north we will be able to go.

Is it worth doing the drive from LA only to Hurst Castle and then back to LA? Seems like most of the highlights are on the north part of the PCH. What would the recommended stops be on the south part between LA and Hurst Castle with kids?

Thanks.

The prettiest parts of the drive are north of Hearst castle, but it's still nice to be able to drive up to the castle if that's all you can do. As far as whether it's a good idea with kids, it depends on the age of the kids and what they're interested in. It's a lot like looking around an old castle like Hogwarts, so it they're into that they may like it. That said, to drive all the way to Hearst Castle from LA doesn't seem worth it to me without being able to continue on PCH.

Are you asking which car rental place? There's no one place that's particularly better than others.

San Luis Obispo is about midway between Tierra Sur and Carmel Valley. Can also stay in Paso Robles. There are marriotts in both.

I usually stay in Santa Barbara after Oxnard, then work my way up. You can stay in big sur. There's a really nice kimpton in Goleta also for a IHG redemption
