Keep in mind, once again, that PCH is CLOSED until further notice around Big Sur so you CANNOT drive all the way down the coast.

1. some may have not commented on the Wiki or thread

2. I am asking  recommendations for specific scenarios that people may want to chime in that are not really answered by a general wiki.

In advance it seems the only options for J flat lie down is JFK-SFO for 32.5K one way using AA miles? Seems like lots of dates some even at 25K.

checking availability on United EWR-SFO J reveals basically zero available dates for saver award would need to use 50K

My question are all business class seats on AA flights flat lie down seats from JFK-SFO?

UA just started lie flat to SAN

I will be going in beginning of August to SFO and driving down to LA over four days, itinerary is drafted and would appreciate any help with booking or suggesting hotels and rental cars.

August 5th 2018 - arrive at sfo, need to pickup minivan or large SUV which I will return at LAX on the 22nd
Hotel #1 night Aug 5-6 - Ritz-Carlton half Moon Bay, booked
Hotel #2 night Aug 6-7 - Intercontinental the Clement, monterey, not booked
Hotel #3 night Aug 7-8 - the Inn at the pier, Pismo Beach, not booked
Hotel #4 night Aug 8-9 - Ritz Carlton bacara, Santa Barbara, not booked
We will be staying from the 9th till the 22nd St a relative in la
If anyone can help me with other suggestions, activities for my kids etc that would be amazing. I also haven't figured how in will have good food the trip as I am coming from Canada and can't bring meat or dairy through customs.

For the car, you would likely be better off dropping off the 1 way in LAX on the 9th, and then picking up a new car from LAX-LAX.
Also, check pricing with Sixt, they have pretty decent pricing (not sure about for your car size) for 1 way rentals.

There are some grocery stores in the Bay Area where you can pick up food.

Rumor, but not officially - http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/roadinfo/sr1
@lubaby I've gotten very good one way rates without going to the airport, even from Enterprise.

Many news sites reported it. .gov site is just listing what the original estimate was. But of course make calls and verify before going that route.

I'll be doing the drive from sfo down to la end of the summer as well. What rates did you get with Enterprise? I got National for about $30/day and should be able to get a nice car with executive aisle.

IMO Pismo Beach can be skipped.  It was nice when I was a kid but I think it's kind of scummy now.

As alternatives, I'd stay in Cambria which is ~1 hour North, or SLO which is about 15 minutes North.   Or just go through to Santa Barbara which is an hour or so South and spend two nights there instead.

I stay in much lower caliber hotels for our road trips. We just use them for beds and pools.
