I'm flying to tlv on american via zurich and london on returen with the recent Elal glitch.
Any idea how many bags I can check-in being a AAdvantage cardholder?
(2 adults one child w/ seat and one lap child).

i have the aa gold- the reason why i applied for this card was, the free bag offer that was sent to me on the mail offer. called citi and they said that my card does not come with the free bag. they are going to dispute it and see what happens. in the mean time, should i just wait to book my tickets (presidents day weekend), using my aa # and see what happens? also, do i have to use the aa card to book? still a bit confused as to how all this works

Dunno if anyone else has experienced this, but I have had tremendous success with the AA platinum mastercard.
Firstly, lately, I haven't had to show my card at the airport, and the free bags are always there.
But more intriguing is that when checking in at the airport kiosk, it tells me that I am eligible for six(!) free bags, while the total traveling is 3 (two adults, one child - booked with avios)

Furthermore, I once booked an Avios ticket (short haul) from my account, for someone else (two passengers). for payment I used my AA Mastercard, and those flying said they were allowed to check a total of four bags free (neither of them have the AA card, and neither of their AAdvantage numbers were used)

It has been working out great, going even beyond what the T&C allow for...
Does anyone have any further information or experience about why it would allow six bags (2 per person) and for travelers without the card - when the AA card is used to book the ticket (with the cardholder not traveling)?

this is being talked abt on the main site in the comments to the aa booked with avios post. its a glitch which allows you the free bags when booking aa thru avios, what im trying to figure out is if this will work only if there is a BA ff number recorded or even if it was left blank or only if a AA frequent flyer number was put in, could you share what you have done?

This is what I do:

I book from BA (usually from my wife's account) and I enter that the member is NOT a traveler.
I book the three tickets (usually 2 adults and one paid child) usually short haul
I PAY for the tickets with the AA card (as opposed to the BA card) (and this usually incurs a few cents of a foreign transaction fee.
I do not enter ANY mileage numbers for any travelers.
I call AA (never had to wait longer than two minutes) to get the record locator, add my AA mileage number (I often do that after on my own online, instead) and I add an infant in arms (unable to do that online, I believe.)

For the tickets booked for others, I did the same:
Entered that the account holder is not traveling.
Paid with the AA card
And that's it. - Didn't enter any mileage numbers (ba or aa) for either travelers, and they both got 2 free bags.

Has anyone tried this, and got two?
Perhaps someone can try booking the same way and see the results?

(as a side point, I recently incurred the $95 annual fee, which was waived (as a $95 statement credit) after I called up).

Just flew again on a short haul aa flight using ba points for three travelers, got five free checked bags, including one car seat... So far so good

I just booked two AA tickets for my parents using avios points.

When I went back to ba.com and search the reservation using BA record locator, it somehow lists my father's BA number. My father doesn't have a BA account at all so I assume BA randomly assigned a FF # to my father when I did the search. Did this happen to you as well? Does it affect the two free bags glitch?

It turned out to be my FF number assigned to my father. Ba agent said because I made the booking using my points so the system automatically assigned my FF number to the reservation. He said it doesn't affect the booking and flight at all. Hope the trick would work.

I haven't gone back to check for the past few trips, but I doubt that a ff # would be assigned since none off the travelers have a ba account.
Furthermore, the boarding passes usually are usually blank in the ff field, besides for mine which has the aa #
